Silikon 1000® (Siloxane compound)

Microdroplet silicone injection augmentation is one of our favorite fillers at our Germantown facility located near Memphis, TN. Compared to the other leading fillers that we use – Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast – Silikon 1000 has a very favorable profile. It is extremely soft to the touch and normally has little to no lumpiness. The attributes are especially appreciated in the lips, but we also have had wonderful success with the results of these microdroplet silicone injections in the naso-labial lines of the face. Depressed facial scars respond wonderfully to this filler.

The advantages of Silikon 1000® are many. It is manufactured by Alcon and FDA approved to be safe and effective for use inside the eyeball. First, the microdroplet technique allows us to achieve a gradual natural result. Our patients commonly are able to go to dinner immediately after a treatment. Second, the result is long-term, and likely permanent. Third, the treatment is the most tolerable treatment available as there is absolutely no sting during introduction of the microdroplets. There is normally some mild swelling, but this swelling is generally less than 25% of the swelling that we see with Restylane. Fourth, the treatment is permanent and therefore more economical than the other fillers. Our patients appreciate the fact that they can get their lips augmented and then enjoy the fact that there is no need for periodic maintenance.

How does it work?  After a thorough consult in which it is determined what the goal is of projection, fullness, and “lip show”, we take baseline digital photographs. Then we map out the exact plan with regard to our approach to issues such as “cupid’s bow accentuation” or “intra-vermillion border enhancement” or vertical lip line (smoker’s lines) attenuation. This filler is unique in that the filler itself DOES fill the tissue, BUT the body’s “rejuvenation reaction” to the microdroplets creates a tissue envelope around each microdroplet. Since this envelope consists of the patient’s own tissue, it is long-lasting. The number of treatments required will normally range from two to five. This number depends upon the initial size of the lips, the desired size of the lips, and the collagen tissue-building reaction to the filler. Treatments will range from four to six weeks between treatments.  Immediately prior to treatment, the lips are numbed with the most powerful topical agent that we can obtain by a special prescription. The product is then administered with at very small cannula. Many of our patients have no discomfort at all during the 5 minute procedure.

Does the procedure have risks?  In our experience the procedure has less risks that any of the other fillers. We avoid using the filler within two weeks of special events, just in case a bruise (or hematoma) is caused. Extremely rare results include “excessive firmness” or inflammation of the injection site. The microdroplet technique makes the occurrence of “drift” or “migration” of the compound rare as well. Silicone is safe because it is one of the most inert, or non-reactive, substances in the world. It is a major ingredient in makeup, conditioners, skin care products, and used as a medical lubricant for needles and syringes. Everyone has been exposed to it. The safely of this compound was confirmed by a panel of eminent scientists from various medical specialties. The March of 2000, New England Journal of Medicine unanimously concluded that there was no evident link between silicone and systemic disease of any kind.

Who should you trust for your treatment? You should make certain that your treatment professional is a competent physician with proper training and proven ability. Alternately, many nurses provide excellent results as demonstrated by their experience and medical doctor supervision. Make certain that the the micro-droplet technique is used and the product being introduced is Silikon 1000® or Adatosil 5000®. At Germantown Aesthetics, you can be certain than we are precise and artistic with our lip augmentation work. Our reputation with facial aesthetics and facial laser medicine is well known in our area of the country. You can start your consultation by scheduling an appointment or emailing a close-up picture of your lips. One photo should be taken from the side and one picture taken from the front, as well as a full face picture from the front (remember your face is the “frame for your lips” and so, a full face picture is very helpful in order to start your planned treatment.
